Should Lawyers Participate in Legal Advice Forums?

This post claims to be about an attorney getting business from participation in Legal Q&A forums.  However, the lawyer doesn’t exactly address that question.  Instead he says his success is probably a result of, “ a combination of factors: The sheer number of answers I’m providing and the areas of law where I’m posting.”

Balanced Approach to Business Development

My takeaways is “a combination of factors,” because that is the essence of successful business development.  Getting clients isn’t easy and to expect one thing or a one time thing to produce substantial business is magical thinking.  You need to gain visibility online and by engaging in face-to-face business development as well.  What and how you do this should depend on what you like and what you are good at.  One size doesn’t fit all.  But in a very competitive legal environment, engaging in random acts of marketing will not produce consistent results so make sure you have a strategy and that you execute on it.  Answering questions on legal advice forums can be incorporated into that strategy.
