Tip of the Week: Get on Google+

Google+ plus now outranks Twitter for the number of active users.  I’m not sure what “active” means in this context but the fact remains that Google drives the Internet bus these days with its dominance over search.  There is no downside for lawyers to setting up a profile on Google+.

Its Easy!

You need a gmail account.  If you already have one, then when you go to Google+, you will be prompted through a series of profile steps.  Your photo: even if you don’t like how you look in photos – get over that!  As a professional, people want to see who you are and what you look like.

For those of you without a gmail account, include a working cell phone as Google will use it to verify that you who you say you are.

The important decision is whether to add people.  I don’t think this necessarily helps your visibility except with Google search ranking but if you look at it like LinkedIn, you have a network to reach out to with content and that will improve your visibility.  The whole exercise takes five minutes and costs nothing.  As Nike says, “just do it.”
