There was a time, not so very long ago, when adding photos, audio and video files to your website, was a challenge. It was something you handed off to your web developer. Even if it was fairly quick and routine for the developer, it would be a struggle for a newbie. However, now Word Press has made it incredibly easy to grab a file, any file and to position on a page or post in seconds.
Static Versus News with Photos and Videos
Just because it’s easy doesn’t make it right. Videos and photos shot with a cell phone can be used on a website – with forethought. I would recommend that for static content like website pages, you use only professional looking photos and video. The reason is that people expect your evergreen content to look polished.
However, if you have a blog or news section on your website, then using quickly snapped photos or quickly shot video, can be effective. People are in a different mindset when they are looking at current content. They will accept the blurry image or the poor lighting of the video IF the content is topical, fast-breaking, engaging and conveys the idea of something happening now.
